Orarion

The orarion is a distinctive vestment worn by ordained clergy in the Orthodox Christian tradition, serving as a symbol of their sacred office and authority. It is a long narrow strip of fabric, typically adorned with crosses or other decorative elements, worn over the left shoulder and draped diagonally across the chest, with one end hanging in the front and the other in the back. The orarion is worn differently depending on the rank of the clergy: deacons wear it over the left shoulder and fasten it at the right side with a small brooch, while priests and bishops wear it crossed over the chest and fastened at the waist. Symbolically, the orarion represents the yoke of Christ and the burden of pastoral care entrusted to clergy, reminding them of their duty to serve God and His people with humility and dedication.
