Paschal Trikirion

The Paschal Trikirion is a ceremonial liturgical object used in Orthodox Christian worship, particularly during the Easter season. It consists of three candle holders mounted on a single shaft or stand, symbolizing the Holy Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Paschal Trikirion is distinct from the regular Trikirion used by bishops and some priests during certain liturgical services. During the Easter Vigil and other Paschal services, the Paschal Trikirion is prominently displayed and carried by the celebrant, often adorned with festive decorations such as flowers and ribbons. The three candles represent the light of Christ triumphing over darkness and death, signifying the resurrection and victory of Jesus Christ. As the Paschal Trikirion is carried in procession throughout the church, its radiant light symbolizes the joyous proclamation of Christ's resurrection and the spread of the Gospel message to all corners of the earth. This sacred object serves as a visual reminder of the central mystery of the Christian faith—the triumph of life over death and the promise of salvation through Jesus Christ.
