Orthodox Praxis

Orthodox praxis encompasses the integration of faith and daily life through practices such as prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and acts of mercy and justice. Grounded in the teachings of Christ and the apostles, Orthodox praxis fosters spiritual growth, moral integrity, and communion with God and neighbor. Prayer serves as the foundation of Orthodox spirituality, encompassing various forms of personal and corporate prayer, including the Jesus Prayer, the Psalms, and the liturgical prayers of the Church. Fasting, undertaken in imitation of Christ's forty-day fast in the wilderness, disciplines the body and purifies the soul, cultivating self-control, humility, and dependence on God. Almsgiving, inspired by Christ's command to love one's neighbor as oneself, involves the sharing of material resources with those in need, fostering compassion, solidarity, and social justice. Acts of mercy and justice, rooted in the prophetic witness of the Church, seek to alleviate human suffering, confront injustice, and promote the dignity and well-being of all people. Orthodox praxis encompasses both personal piety and social engagement, balancing contemplation with action and embodying the love of God in concrete expressions of faith and love.
